Once you are done with adding Wi-Fi to the network, you need to make sure that yo

u have a good and speedy connection. You won’t be able to receive any notifications, live feeds, or security alerts when you have a poor internet connection. So it is best to check Blink signal strength.

How To Check Your Blink’s Signal Strength?

Each camera of the Blink needs to show at least 3 bars of connectivity to avoid performance issues. Sync Module receives information from the Blink server via Wi-Fi and sends a command to the system device, i.e. Blink camera. And then, it sends security notifications thru local Wi-Fi.

It is recommended to position your sync module to the centre of your building to get good signal strength from the Wi-Fi router and cameras. Follow these steps to check the signal strength of Blink:

  1. Open Blink app
  2. Tap on the Home screen icon
  3. Access Sync Module manu
  4. You will be able to see the signal strength for the sync module on the menu
  5. Tap on three lines next to your camera name
  6. Go to the Camera Setting screen
  7. Tap on the update button to view signal strength for the camera to sync module and Wi-Fi

The mini camera does not require a sync module. Hence make sure to place it near the Wi-Fi router.

How to Improve my Blink’s Wi-Fi Signal Strength?

If you have network signal issues, ensure your Blink camera is within 100 feet. These are a few ways you can try out to improve Wi-Fi signal strength:

Keep the camera near the Wi-Fi router

The long-distance between the router and the camera causes poor signals. Hence move your Blink camera near to the router.

Use of Wi-Fi range extender:

A Wi-Fi extender expands the existing Wi-Fi signal in a certain area. It improves the network signal of Blink devices. Follow this process to use the Wi-Fi extender:

  • First, set up a Wi-Fi extender.
  • Once done, signal strength will appear in Wi-Fi settings with its name using _EXT at the end.
  • Make sure to rename the Wi-Fi extender using the same Wi-Fi network name and password. (for ex – Office Wi-Fi should be renamed as Office wifi_EXT.
    • You can change the name by accessing the Wi-Fi extender settings.
  • Ensure that Blink indoor, XT, and XT2 cameras are connected to the same Wi-Fi SSID that Sync Module is connected to.

Use of Mesh networking with Wi-Fi

Mesh Wi-Fi is a system built to provide uninterrupted Wi-Fi service throughout the home by removing dead zones from every corner of your home. Two or more similar routers are used to create a mesh router. So it needs more than two routers to get a high-speed Wi-Fi connection.

Mesh routers are easy to set up and expand. While expanding the mesh router, you can add a new mesh router and set it up from the companion app. And the rest will be done automatically.

If you are still facing difficulties, you can go for the power cycling Sync Module by unplugging it from the power source for 30 seconds and plugging it back. And you can also try updating the Blink application, which may troubleshoot the issue.

What Happens if My Camera is Out Of Range?

If there are distances and obstacles between your Syck module and the Wi-Fi router, there are chances that you will get poor Wi-Fi signals. This leads your camera to go out of range, and so it will result in draining the battery, missing clips, or delayed actions.

If your camera is set too far from the standard range, you may miss some important communication. And if you have a poor internet connection, your camera will fail to communicate with your smart devices and be unable to alert you.

You can use a Wi-Fi extender or mesh Wi-Fi network system to avoid such situations.

How do I Increase its Range?

If you want a strong signal with maximum performance, ensure that your blink sync module and router are not positioned too far.

It also depends on the type of router you are using or your internet connection package, signal strength, and internet speed. So you can try placing your sync module at different places and testing when your signal drops.

To increase the range, ensure at least 3 bars of connectivity and an internet speed of at least 2Mbps. Also, remember that the Blink Camera and the Sync module are not set too far. The maximum distance between the two should be 100 feet. If it goes above, you may lose the connection while your camera goes out of range.

Blink camera also receives a Wi-Fi connection and does not solely depends on the Sync Module. It requires a Wi-Fi connection to send information recorded to the sync module.

Sometimes, when a building’s construction material is too dense, your range may exceed 100 feet.

FAQ

Do Blink Cameras Record Without Wi-Fi?

Blink cameras do not work offline. It needs a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi internet connection to send information to Sync Module. It requires a high-speed internet connection of at least 2 Mbps uploading speed.

Will Blink cameras work with 5GHz Wi-Fi?

No, Blink devices only can connect to Wi-Fi having 2.4 GHz. Some routers create a 5 GHz network, but it will not be visible on the Blink system.

How Far Can Blink Camera Be Away From Sync Module?

Sync Module should be set up in such a way that it should be able to communicate with cameras. Ideally, the Blink camera can be 100 feet away from Sync Module.

What is the Range of Blink Outdoor Cameras?

As mentioned earlier, Blink outdoor camera range is up to 100 feet in any direction.

Conclusion

Connecting the blinking camera to Wi-Fi requires some workaround. However, the steps above will help you set up and connect the Blink camera to Wi-Fi easily.

Blink camera needs a strong Wi-Fi internet connection to send out important security notifications, clips, and messages on your phone. It is best to check Blink’s signal strength when you think you are facing performance issues and take steps to troubleshoot them and increase the signal strength.

A few things are best to keep in mind while setting up Blink cameras, like camera placement, keeping the devices in range, using an extender if needed, and connecting to only 2.4 GHz frequency Wi-Fi. The process becomes quite effortless if you keep these basic things in mind while setting up and connecting Blink Camera to Wi-Fi.
